MLD after cosmetic surgery
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a specialised massage that helps the lymph system work more efficiently. MLD after cosmetic surgery ensures the treated area is given special attention to speed up recovery and provide smoother results.
How does MLD after cosmetic surgery help?
Post surgical inflammation and trauma can result in temporary hardness, water retention, swelling, haematoma, and lumpiness. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) helps to move the fluid back in to the lymph vessels, reducing swelling, pain and bruising, improving appearance and and speeding up recovery. On occasions cosmetic surgery can result in fibrosis (a permanent hardening of the tissue) or seroma (a pocket of serum) Many surgeons prescribe Manual lymphatic drainage to help prevent this.

How many treatments are required?
We recommend between 6 and 12 treatments depending on the procedure. Immediately after the procedure we advise a few treatments close together for the first couple of weeks, followed by maintenance in the months following. It is also recommended to have a couple of treatments before the surgery. This helps to remove waste, toxins, and excess fluid as wells as bacteria and virus, which helps to the reduce the risk of infection and speed up healing post surgery.
