What’s holding you back?

When it comes to the game of golf, every player from beginner to professional is looking for ways to lower their score. But, before you head to the range to hit another bucket of balls or sign up for another lesson, there is something that might be holding you back…YOU!

Did you ever think that no matter how hard you practice your body just isn’t physically capable, or no matter how many times your technical coach asked you to try this new poison, you’re just not flexible enough to do it?

How golf fitness coaching may help you…

When coaching a golfer our first priority is to watch them swing in several important playing environments.

  • On-course swing
  • In competition swing
  • Practice swing (without a ball)
  • Fatigued (playoff swing)

Each swing allows us to build a series of exercises to help correct weak positions in their game. The exercises are developed into movement drills to develop the exact same bone movements and muscle reactions that each golfer needs for improving their game.

We make it our priority to work with each golfer every step of the way too help prevent a feeling of doubt, or a risk of injury when practicing, which could make the difference between a good swing and a bad one, when it counts.

Typically, we initially see players suffering from a lack of mobility. This isn’t just about learning to touch your toes or do the splits. Its about developing your body’s ability to send the correct message from your brain to the chosen muscle groups at exactly the right time.

An imbalanced movement within a golfers swing, means they will not hit the ball with their true power and potential. This can turn into an expensive bad habit and I don’t just mean having to drown your bad scores in the clubhouse.

We begin by identify the golfers individual movement imbalances. This may require changing their core positions to allow the body to create even more speed or simply addressing a small niggle in the middle of a competition. It’s then a question of practice and steady step-by-step development with your golf fitness coach ensuring you are accountable and not wasting your time wondering if you are doing the right thing.

Using an experienced golf fitness coach will provide an efficient coaching schedule enabling each golfer adequate recovery time, thus ensuring peak performance throughout a long season.

Aside from the physical benefits, one of the best benefits of yoga is how it helps a person manage stress, which is known to have devastating effects on the body and mind. “Stress can reveal itself in many ways, including back or neck pain, sleeping problems, headaches, drug abuse, and an inability to concentrate,” says Dr. Nevins. “Yoga can be very effective in developing coping skills and reaching a more positive outlook on life.”

Eating the correct foods directly contributes to a golfers performance. Just imagine a race car running on old clunky tractor fuel… it’s just not right for the job.

We know a true golfer has to do their best in every round so why wouldn’t you look into the right fuel? The majority of golfers believe that sports nutrition consists of boring, bland food like skinless chicken and broccoli or drinking electrolytes and definitely doesn’t include a cold beer after a days golf. However, with the right nutritional advice, it’s unlikely you will notice a change in your diet, except that you now understand how to truly enjoy food, allowing you to feel better than ever on the course.

We do this by developing your nutrition around the foods you already eat. We then apply the strategies listed below, helping you start to make sure you have the correct variables covered, ensuring you become the best possible version of you. You will feel motivated to eat the right things at the right times and not be so worried about what to eat, giving you more time to enjoy your round and have a celebratory drink after.

Yoga’s incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve a person’s mental well-being. “Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration,” says Dr. Nevins.

When developing a solid nutrition plan for a player we take every possible variable into account. We begin by establishing some solid practical nutrition foundations to build on.

  • Eating the right foods to help your body function to its true potential
  • Eating enough to allow your body to stay at its full energy levels
  • Educating you on the right hydration levels and hydration sources

Golf nutrition is a massively under utilised tool and key to our players success. When you work with a Golf Fitness Coach that creates a nutrition plan perfect for you, you understand that it’s not about eating ‘healthy’ bland food day in day out, but about fine-tuning and giving your body the fuel it needs to function at it’s very best.
